Campaigns by the daughter, sales by the father
As Senior Account Manager, Marcel spends all day selling light commercial vehicles to both end users and traders. He also keeps in touch with customers whose cars have already been delivered. Together with the marketing team, Lotte as Campaign Marketer ensures that (potential) customers find their way to Kleyn and stay informed through (online) campaigns and advertisements, among other things. ‘Actually, our work complements each other. With the marketing team, we make sure that customers make a request for a car. These requests are then handled and sold by the salespeople, including my father,’ says Lotte.

From childhood dream to unexpected start of career
‘When I moved to Leerdam as a boy with my parents and saw the site full of trucks, it became a dream for me to work at Kleyn one day,’ Marcel explains. ‘It was therefore the first - and the last - company I applied to. I started as a transport planner combined with cashier. I did this for two years, then sold trucks for one year. Due to staff shortages at the time, I went to Vans on a temporary basis, but this temporary period is still not over after 35 years,’ he says, laughing. 
Lotte: ‘Whereas it was a dream for my father to work here, I really never expected to work here. To be honest, I don't have much with (truck) cars and for me Kleyn was really ‘daddy's work’ where I often went as a child. When I was looking for a job after my education and this came to Kleyn management through my father, I went for a job interview here anyway. I certainly didn't regret that! I can learn a lot here and see the challenge in marketing products I have less of a bond with. And secretly, it's also quite nice to really get a good picture of exactly what kind of work your father does.’

‘We also discussed at home what it would be like to work together at Kleyn, but it makes a difference that we both work in different departments. Besides, I think it's nice that we occasionally bump into each other in the field and that we can carpool after Friday afternoon drinks,’ says Lotte.

Working with different generations
Marcel: ‘I also enjoy seeing what Lotte does for Kleyn. When I see what growth the company has experienced in all these years, I am proud that Lotte is now contributing to that. The only downside is that it sometimes drives them crazy at home.‘’ Lotte adds: ‘But my mother and sister were already a bit used to it, because I am actually the third generation of our family to work at Kleyn. In fact, my grandfather also worked here as an on-call driver.’ ‘Indeed,’ says Marcel, ’And that actually says enough about what it's like to work at Kleyn. There are many people who have worked here for decades and there are also more and more sons and daughters of (former) colleagues working here. After all, it's a fun, multi-faceted company where, from the outside, it looks like the same commercial vehicles have been on the premises for 105 years, but where, meanwhile, great strides are made every week by every department.’ ‘What wise words from someone who is part of the furniture here,’ Lotte says, laughing in conclusion.
